Helidog Private Eye
From Falsipedia
Hellidog Private Eye was an American television Pilot on CBS from the 1970's written by the late Russ Starwalsky. The Saturday morning live-action film series featured a cast of various animals given apparent speaking roles by overdubbing with human voices. The only human part was played by an unknown hand model of the time Fred Blitzer and was only shown when his hands used the remote to fly the lead character around with a remote control helicopter suit. The pilot episode was an hour-long special that introduced many of the characters that would have become reoccurring. Some of these characters consisted of "Buffster the Buffest hamster," side kick to Helidog and of course their arch enemy "Dr. Comb-over." The Main character Rex was revealed to have the reincarnated soul of a world war two fighter pilot, who yearned to fly again and with the help of his owner Arty inventor a remote control helicopter suit which they used to stop evil. The plot, always played for laughs, featured Rex Ruffington, AKA "Helidog," and his owner Arty in a private eye style satire. Rex owned a private eye agency call Bloodhound Inc, and they engaged in ongoing conflicts with the evil Dr. Comb-over and his villainous organization the Club, which later spawned the Hair Club For Men. Buffster the Buffest Hamster was set to be Helidog's side kick if the series would have been picked up.
Unfortunately Helidog did not debut to stellar reviews largely due to the release of another animal only cast television show "Lancelot Link" which also debuted in the seventies and won the minds and hearts of the American public.
Helidog Private Eye was the most expensive Saturday morning children's show to that time, with location filming, props and costumes, and the laborious staging and training of the animals.
