Letters of the alphabet are often used to communicate ideas in the form of words. Words are formed by putting letters next to each other, keeping in mind that there should be at least one vowel in the formation. This page contains both words and letters.

Next in importance to words, letters are also used for designating columns in spreadsheets. This makes it easier to refer to a single piece of information in the spreadsheet. The letters are used in conjunction with numbers, which represent rows. To reference the top left piece of information, one would use A1. This methodology is also used in Battleship and Bingo, though in bingo the letters and numbers are not sequential, nor even in alphabetic order.

Letters are also used by acronyms which are letters that have periods between them. Acronyms are often used to represent organizations or often used phrases. Some examples of acronyms include F.U.B.A.R., N.A.S.A., S.N.A.F.U., N.A.T.O. and P.B.K.A.C.. Acronyms are favored by the government, especially the military, professional organizations and nerds, though nerds tend to make acronyms that are hard to pronounce.

The final use of letters is for organizing important words. This is called alphabetizing. Alphabetizing is used in a specific science called filing. To see examples of filing click on the letters below.
